Babita Jaishankar about Monsoon wear on Saffron Sunshine
Dress to sizzle when it drizzles!
Bright shining sun has mellowed down with dark clouds, cool breeze and romantic rains. Monsoons are finally here! Not only the time to indulge in yummy hot pakoras and dance in the rains but also some eye-catchy fashion.
Bring out the chic in you and ditch all the gloominess of this weather in style. Wondering how! Our style expert Babita Jaishankar of the fashion brand “BAJA - The New U” from Bangalore, will help you sizzle, when it drizzles with her monsoon style mantras.
Dress to Impress!
Rains bring happiness, so it is certainly not the time to be indoors or step out wearing the dullest outfit. It’s the time to let your clothes breath some fresh air too. Bring out those dresses, shorts, skirts, dungarees or even bermudas. Mix and match them up and colour block the way.
As suggested by Babita, another must-have in the monsoon wardrobe is a capri. Pair it up with short jackets to protect yourself from the chills. You can also layer few tank tops in bold colors with the capris. Variety of options in jackets at BAJA, goes really well with capris in any colour and fabric.
Opt out of denims and suede and go for lighter fabrics like cotton and silk, but try to avoid chiffon and crepe, as, when wet, they tend to lose sheen and become sheerer.
The working ones should choose skirt suits or formal knee length dresses or even a kurta with leggings and save themselves from reaching all drenched in the morning meeting. Invest in a transparent trench-coat in floral print or bright colour that can see through your trendy outfit and let your dress echo the mood of the season.
Rains are synonymous to umbrellas. This year go beyond the normal and pick a neon or a bright coloured umbrella. Polka dots and bright floral would also do. Be daring in colours and pep up your style quotient. Choose the collapsible ones for an easy carry and jump out in the rains.
Monsoon demands something comfortable and waterproof but that doesn’t spell hideous. Pick those uber-cool jelly shoes, waterproof slippers, sandals, high boots, ballerinas and flip flops. For the generous ones, match the high boot with your umbrella or raincoat and be an instant head turner. Leather, canvas and suede shoes are a complete no-no, if you are working and can’t do without them. I would say keep a pair in your office and slip out of it before venturing out.
Accessorize right and be a trendsetter this season. Choose bold coloured waterproof bags, big enough to accommodate your umbrella or a trenchcoat and those important documents and planners. Fabrics, leather and canvas totes don’t work well in rains. Also don’t miss out on jewellery fearing the wet weather; beaded necklaces, bangles and bracelets in interesting colours add on to the style factor.
So when it pours, don’t let the cloudy weather cloud your sense of dressing. Go ahead, dress in fuss-free style and have fun in the rains!
